A great middle grade historical fiction book. Alan Gratz had done it again! This story had so many suspenseful moments. It is sure to keep readers engaged from the very first page to the last.
After reading Kate Quinn’s The Rose Code, it was a fun connection to hear the Official Secrets Act mentioned in this book as well.
Also enjoyed having my biggest fear of birds shared with one of the characters

A bit of a disappointment. Gratz does a good job of conveying the fear people who didn't agree with the Nazis must have felt, with every word and action being scrutinized by everyone around them. He also shows what happens to kids when they're raised with only Nazi propaganda - some of those kids were terrifying. But the overblown spy plot was a bit too much and, in the end, it sank the book.

Reading this book now in 2024 when Jewish people are murdering Palestinians is overwhelming . The similarities between what the Hitler Youth did and what the IDF are doing now is scary. I absolutely love Alan Gratz. I think that is he extremely talented and informative in a way that is interesting. I learned a lot more about the significance of the Hitler Youth in his book than in a history class.

Wow, what a ride! I love the whole spy storyline. The chapters were quick and even though it was a long book, reluctant readers will eat this up!
