True friendships stand the test of time and weather a multitude of storms. Celeste, Toni, Leslie and Yasmeen have weathered storms before but as they try to open a bookstore to harbor their true love of reading, all their lives takes twists and turns. When the expected, good or bad, happens who do you turn to? Who shows up for you even when you don’t want to see or talk to anyone? How do you show up after a big blowout?

I waited months for this book to become available on audio only for it not to be what was described. The bookshop definitely was in the shadows with the messiness of the friends’ lives at the forefront. I honestly kept forgetting about the bookshop. I did appreciate the somewhat random book/author shoutouts because some of them I’ve already read or are on my TBR list. But yeah, this def was not what it was made out to be

Really wanted to like this more and while it had some redeeming qualities I just wasn’t a huge fan overall, However, the women’s friendship was undoubtedly the highlight of this book and led me to adding that other quarter star to my review. The rest of the book felt very elementary in the writing style though. To me it felt like the author had a checklist - like be sure to insert a romance scene here and here, tough situation here and here. Plus the level of overt foreshadowing was overwhelming and disappointing.

The fact that the author never wrote of a sex scene between Leslie and Aaron was a nice touch though! That type of more discreet foreshadowing is what Lindo-Rice should lean into more.

The drama, the friendship, the love that is contained within the pages of The Bookshop Sisterhood is unparalleled. The depth of each character and how they play off one another makes this book incredible. From beginning to end you cannot help but be invested into every minute of the lives of Toni, Yasmeen, Leslie and Celeste as they navigate love, their past, life changes and health crises. These four women prove from page to page how incredibly strong they are independently but how much more resilient they are when they come together. Where are the sign up sheets to be added to the sisterhood or even the book club? Michelle Lindo-Rice knocked it out of the park with this novel.

I absolutely loved this book so much! I love how the author writes these beautiful strong women yet shows how even strength has flaws and we are always learning. Reminding us what true treasures are in our life these friends go through so much and a great example of “when it rains, it pours.” I will definitely look into other works of this author. I highly recommend this book! ☺️
