Kept trying but they weren't any closer to the bookshop, the characters kept making the same dumb mistakes on loop, and the drama too much for characters I didn't care about. Life is too short to read something you're not giving with.
The Bookshop Sisterhood has an interesting and promising premise that delivered in some parts and fell short in others. What I had hoped would be a new favorite became more of a time-passing read.

š Sisterhood should not be in the title of this book. Thereās so much going on I donāt even know how to rate it. All I can say is, if you need a likable character to enjoy a book youāll be hard pressed with this one.

A woman's lit story with a dose of tension and a dash of almost open door romance, this novel tells the story of a difficult season in the lives of 4 close friends and their families, reminding the reader of the importance of both friends and family and owning what is in your circle of influence.
To be clear, this is not a book about a bookshop, even if it looks that way in the description. That's an unimportant side plot.
This book is soapier than I usually read. Drama. Drama. Drama. Like most soapy storylines, there are plotlines that could instantly be fixed if only the characters were willing to talk to each other, but at least they weren't as foolish as most soapy books (although they each had foolish moments).
I had to suspend my disbelief when it talked about how quickly one character tore through audiobooks and again at the idea of how quickly lost money can be regained. It's also difficult to believe that savvy businesswomen would believe that opening a new business would support four families immediately, when most take 5 years to support 1.
I was surprised at the break-up, mostly because by the number of pages it wasn't at the end of Act 2 or the beginning of Act 3. After finishing the book I realized it was because the ending was so rushed that Act 3 wasn't fully developed.
Normally I struggle keeping the story straight with a cast of 10 or more important characters, but splitting the narration 4 ways truly aided in both clarifying and helping me care about each story arc.

Every character was the same. Keeping secrets, dramatizing and focussing on outward appearance. They didn't support one another even though they are supposed to be friends. The bookshop was barely a topic
Wow, this book had Real Housewives levels of drama!
Four best friends are on the verge of opening the bookstore of their dreams, a welcoming place for their community to gather and foster friendships. But with their goal finally in reach their personal lives are thrown in upheaval. As each friend struggles with their own disaster they need each other now more than ever if they're going to make it to the store's grand opening.
I will admit, for a book called The Bookshop Sisterhood I thought the bookshop would be featured more. That being said, I did think the book was well written and I enjoyed the exploration of female and familial relationships. This friend group was extremely toxic, and at times I questioned why they even continued to stay in each other's lives, but it was also a little bit addictive in that reality show/train wreck kind of way. If you like to watch trashy tv and you live for the drama, I think you'll like this one!
Thank you to Netgalley and Harlequin Books for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
