I really enjoyed this book especially seeing both character’s perspectives (anyone who knows me I love a dual POV)! I really liked Olive and seeing her succeed as a bestselling author at just 21 was amazing. Her friendship with Lucy was perfect and I can’t wait to read her story next! As for her relationship with Jason, I loved seeing how she would do anything for him and how her childhood crush still followed all those years later. I liked Jason and it was sad hearing about his family life, however I didn’t get the feeling that he was in love with Olive. I got the impression that he liked her, but not loved her. It felt more of a physical attraction to me. With all that being said, the spice, lust and protectiveness of Jason was amazing!

As for the plot, I really enjoyed it. The marriage of convenience worked well with Jason being seen as a bit of a playboy and it bringing Olive’s book to life as such. I loved the ending of how it finished where their story started but I do wish we saw more of Olive’s family’s reaction to everything that happened though as they were a big focus, at the start especially.

Overall, I enjoyed this book, but just felt some things were missing for me, which is why this is a 4 star reward instead of a 5 for me.

Slow burn and lots of sexual tension buildup, but a very obvious and predictable ending.

next to the fifty shades of grey, this is the worst book i have ever read.

firstly, the writing style was intolerable. this book was like a wattpad book written by a twelve year old— heck, wattpad books like those might have a better writing style, actually.

secondly, this book romanticizes sexual assault. i’m not going to explain further, but drunk consent is NOT consent. taking your partner’s clothes off while they were asleep is not any better either.

thirdly, the characters were so unlikable. the only trait jason has is being a movie star and calling olive “little one”. he’s blander than mal from shadow and bone. on the other hand, olive is literally the definition of a kid in an adult body. i wanted a sunshine main character, not the whole solar system.

i wish i could tell you that it lived up to the hype, that it’s as beautiful as it sounds in the book’s description. unfortunately, it wasn’t.

(never trusting contemporary romance booktok again lol)

“I wanted to own those secret smiles just as much I wanted to own her beautiful heart. I wanted to be the reason for their existence.” 🥰🥰🥰

This book was so good! The dynamics between Olive & Jason — their chemistry was off the charts! I’ve read some of Ella Maise’s other books and let me tell you — her writing is fantastic! Definitely worth reading 💖
