I read the entire series a few years back. So I wanted to bring up something I’m not sure many will with the first volume reviews. This is a cute series and the artwork is amazing. The story line of a new adoptive dad (basically) learning about his daughter and how to be a single parent is great, too, and sheds some light on that aspect of Japanese life we don’t get to see much about. (Adoptions, I hear, are not common there.)
All good and well, and there’s even more tension when he runs into the girl’s mother. Why has she abandoned her daughter? Etc.? That’s about the middle of the series.
Fast forward about ten years later and it gets seriously messed up w the girl deciding she’s in love with him. EWWW. No, that’s not what I came for!! So I kept reading anyway but please, you don’t have to feel you need to complete the series if that bothers you. I don’t think it added much, it was mostly a way to add drama to a successful story that could have naturally wound down on its own.
This is one where I actually highly recommend the anime. The animation is soft (like animated watercolor!) and beautiful there ,too.

Very cute very good story...full of mystery behind the grandfather...and Rin's mom. I will be reading more...
Spoiler for the whole series. Theyre not related and end up dating when she graduates highschool. Grooming boys, girls, and gender nonconforming babes. I hate it here

I love the concept of this story! The anime was cute, but I am hoping the manga series goes further because I love the story of Daikichi and Rin!
I didn't enjoy this like I thought I would. The premise is a good one: a 30-year-old bachelor 'inherits' his grandfather's dirty little secret: a six-year-old girl. Daikichi suddenly has to grapple with childcare, bed wetting, toys and juggling work with parenting. But it fell flat in the execution, or perhaps the translation? Not sure but I don't feel engaged enough to read on. Perhaps it was just a little too much slice-of-life for this fantasist?
This manga is absolutely adorable!
(Although the adults do bug me a little with how inconsiderate they are...)
I can't wait to find out what happens next in the upcoming volumes :)
