The Blood That Binds Us Review

Couple: Wren & Sin

Author: Erin Mainord

Tropes: shifter/witch/sorcerer, dark romance, hidden identity, PNR, high fantasy, spicy romance, morally grey, touch her and die vibes

Review: OMG Erin knocked it out of the park with her debut novel! This book is written from Wren’s POV and it phenomenal! It straddles the line between dark fantasy and high fantasy with two MCs that are fraught with tension!

The book begins with Wren escaping the clutches of the revolution and being taken prisoner by the Dark Art or Sin. During her capture, the sparks fly and she tries to fight the burgeoning attraction she feels for the surly sorcerer.

As the book unfolds we begin to see just how much Wren is ensnared in his web and secrets about the kingdom, the King and Sin’s father begin to come to light. As tension escalates we see both of them lean more and more on one another until it epically implodes in the final scenes of the book.

I really loved the world development in this book and felt like it set up the stage for a series that is going to be complex and epic. I also loved how the romance was very slow burn and enemy to lovers style. Wren and Sin spend so much time in a battle of wills that we are able to see the bonds develop between them.

I enjoyed this book and binge read in right away. My only concerns are how distraught Wren is at the ending when she learns of Sin’s awful deceit regarding her family.

This book takes a spin on witch, shifter and sorcerer hierarchy and I loved how Erin made the paranormals different and unique. I am looking forward to what she does with it in book 2.

5⭐️ 1.5🔥 This book had me turning the page so fast trying to see what would happen next. It was so easy to get lost in this world and lose track of time. For it being Erin’s debut novel, I enjoyed the world building and the descriptive adjectives were a nice addition. I didn’t feel lost within the story and I thought things were explained pretty well. A really solid plot with character building and action in my opinion. There was so much angst and tension and I was here for it. I highlighted so much of their banter because I couldn’t stop giggling. Wren was super feisty and I love that in a FMC. It’s low on the spice scale for me as things didn’t really happen until almost 80% of the book. But I really did enjoy how this enemies to lovers was true enemies until the end 😅 Quite a few twists sprinkled in as well. I cannot wait until the next book to see what happens next in this world.

I have nothing but good things to say about this book! I loved the storyline as well as the spice. Erik did a great job mixing all my fav fantasy elements. Brooding hot male mc and an even hotter fmc. Magic, shape shifter, and mystery. What's not to love!
