Okay what a fun book! I will say parts in the beginning were a liiiitle slow. But the last 100 pages dang! And the twists at the end? So good! Need to read book two! Perfect if you like fantasy romance, enemies to lovers, blood witches and shifters!
A very enjoyable detour from my typical fae smut. Erin has an incredible knack for storytelling that is supported by an intriguing magic system and great world building. This slow burn enemies to lovers has captivating FMC & MMC whose relationship makes you crave the drama and spice

This book was absolutely fantastic!
As it is the first book in the series there was quite a lot of world building. I found the magic system to be intriguing and want to find out more about the different magical species in this world (transcendents, bloodwitches, mages). There is just something about morally grey characters that I truly enjoy reading. The FMC and MMC have a true enemy to lovers relationship and I could truly feel their hatred towards each other at the beginning of the story. While the romance is really slow-burn the story itself is fast paced. After learning the backstories of the main characters I can understand why they act certain ways and where their prejudices are coming from. There were a few twists and turns I didn’t see coming and the ending has left me shocked and devastated for both Sin and Wren.
I enjoyed the writing style and am really looking forward to read ‘The Bonds That Brake Us’

DNF.
This was not for me.
The premise was interesting, but the actual writing was very...off-putting. The tone of the words used didn't match the experiences being laid out on the page.
For example, a key snuggling into a lock while our FMC is locked up in a cell? If I think "snuggle" I think cute and adorable. Warmth. Safety. Not horrible situation and fear.
Then there is the first meeting between Sin (

Umm, excuse me ma’am. You can’t just rip out my heart like that and carry on like everything is totally normal and peachy keen. Or…I guess you can since you’re the author and all that jazz.
If you’re looking for a true enemies-to-(still enemies)lovers, intrigue, hate (mutual/self, etc.), tragic backstories, betrayal (oh man *the* betrayal), unique magic, blood cravings, killing…lots of killing, pretty ballgowns, douchey dads, douchey rebellions, douchey nobility (there are a lot of douchey dudes in this story), unique shifters, and an ending that straight up gut punches you at 2am (at least in my case), well, THIS is the book for you! It’s dark, it’s angsty, it’s violent, it’s spicy, it’s heartbreaking, it had me in a goddamn chokehold…which coincidentally happens a lot to our MFC throughout this book. Thank god book two is already out because I would lose my mind having to wait to see the consequences of the “Shitshow Showdown Reveal” at the end of this book.

1.5 stars. I was really enjoying it until about the 50% mark and then it went downhill. I also really didn't like the use of the c word. This book had potential but didn't deliver.
