Last Stand of Dead Men is the brilliant 8th book from the Skulduggery Pleasant series and also leading up to the last book to the series coming out next year. The build up is brilliant and Derek Landy fails to disappoint once again. This book is shocking and tearful in some places. You find yourself rooting for most of the main characters and also sitting on the edge of your seat as you carry on reading. I found it hard to put this book down, every chapter held something new for me to cling on to and want to find out about. You would think the second last book would be nothing but a fill up for what's to come but this book beats this by making sure that every chapter counted and although the main action is to come soon, it is still filled to the brim with never-ending excitement and thrill.

It's interesting to see how the characters have progressed since the first book. Valkyrie is someone entirely different now and this is when we really start to point out her flaws and what a mess she has made of the entire situation. Skulduggery is his usual humorous self and and is great to also be able to see the other characters more deeply and be reminded of past extra characters that we have come across in the earlier books. Instead of moving on from the previous books, we find ourselves constantly being connected to them as it's all fitting together ready for what's to come.
