Bad people really do make for the worse heroes.

Not as good as some of the other books.
The plot seemed all over the place, I had the feeling there were simply too many different storylines. The whole book merely reads like the first part of the grand finale in book 9.

Ghastly.

I also love how the title can be taken two ways.

"China looked at Skulduggery, and her voice softened. "Detective Pleasant, you have one task and one task only. Find Darquesse. Stop her if you can... kill her if you must.""

I love the evolution of the characters through the series!

Definitely for the more mature 11+ reader due to the violence, but a great story all the same. Loads of characters, plenty of story arcs, backstabbing, twists, turns and so forth - and the trademark humorous dialogue.

One point - if you're reading the series through then make sure you read The Maleficent Seven immediately prior to this one. It's kind of like volume "7a" and events within it affect those within "Last Stand..." and are referred to within it. Which is annoying as I've not read "TMS" yet. Grr.
