and maybe one day we all will discover—
you can’t judge a book,
or a pumpkin,
by its cover.

Okay, this was absolutely adorable. Full of fun colours, fun rhymes and a wonderful message, it is a great book for kids!

First of all, why would you name a children's character "Spookley"? It's so hard to say and makes reading aloud less than fun...

Also not a huge fan of how after Spookley's differentness is discovered to be good that suddenly the farmer decides he doesn't need regular pumpkins anymore.
While I think it's very important that kids learn the importance of people different than themselves I also feel like there is this underlying pressure everywhere to be special and different. Sometimes people are ordinary and that isn't bad...

A fun read aloud about a square pumpkin who learns that it's beneficial sometimes to be different from everyone else. Rhyming text and fun illustrations.
