There are few books that I can reread and they keep my attention, but this one does it for me. Penn is such an incredible writer. I am in awe of how she creates this super addictive dynamic between Diem and every single character she meets. It doesn’t matter who Diem’s talking to—I am 100% invested.
For people that have read this series, you either love or hate Henri. I haven't met anyone who loves Henri other than Penn, and Henri himself... but I digress.
This time, I thought, "Hey, maybe I’ll give Henri a chance." Spoiler alert: that was a terrible idea. Turns out, he is absolutely not deserving of any second chances. I didn’t think it was possible to hate him even more than I did before, but lo and behold, here I am laughing at my own foolishness. Hahaha.
Just like the first time, I’m giving this 5 stars when it really deserves an amount that doesn't exist.

This was quite entertaining. I’d seen it online, saying it was for anyone who loves ACOTAR and/or TOG, so that grabbed my attention right away. There’s mortals and Descended (those who have magic), and of course they’re separated by beliefs and court/realm politics. Our FMC’s mother has disappeared after she’s spent her life trying to keep her daughter Diem far away from the Descended. With her blue eyes and white hair, Diem is sometimes confused for being a Descended, and when she stops taking the powder her mother has fed to her for years to keep her “hallucinations” at bay, strange things begin to happen to her. It’s been enticing enough, that I’m diving right into book 2.
obvious plot and naive MC
Struggled to finding this book. Storyline was fairly obvious (grew up poor, but mysterious father and mysterious heritage which means she needs to take “medicine”. Of course she stops and we are not surprised at all when powers begin to show.
MC was juvenile & naive, i was very disappointed with authors choices here, and rather than understanding from Diems perspective her choices and actions made her seem stupid. Sad because I had high hopes for this book. Will not continue makes me too annoyed.

My god! This book got my out of a really bad reading slump & suddenly I remembered why I love to read 🤗
Sometimes I felt really frustrated with the decisions that Diem made, but other than that? I loved it 😊
