To adult eyes this is predictable and you know they will save the pooch just in time but I find these books fun...also they were a great part of my kids' childhoods keeping them happy and giving us all something fun to share. I enjoy rereading one from time to time. If you liked Famous five but want a more contemporary version or if you liked baby sitters club but want both genders and solving mysteries this fits the bill. It's even Australian.

Richelle is my second least favourite (I also dislike Nick) but in this book I almost liked her. Almost.

It had some LOL moments too.

Richelle, Richelle.
Even though I know Jenny Pausacker ghost wrote the Richelle books, I still can't bring myself to like this character. Incredibly self-involved.
Jock was the goodiest boi and deserved all the bagpiping his heart desired.
Elder abuse. Nudity.
