I found this very interesting to read now, even though we are grandparents. I wish I’d had this when our children were younger. This is an interesting way to relate to your children, even if they are now adults. Highly recommended.

I think there are lots of great tidbits to take from this one, but I can’t say I was obsessed with all things. I feel that way about most parenting books—they’re not always one size fits all! I’m still glad I read it so I have more tools in my toolbox.

Pros: Practical advice that makes sense and feels good. Especially enjoyed the chapters towards the end that look at various difficulties with children and how to approach them with the suggested lens. I also enjoyed how she incorporated some self-care into the book.

Cons: Very little evidence to back it up. This isn't the accumulation of studies or evidence, it is one person's thoughts. She's very up front with that and I do think her approach 'makes sense'.

Loved this book! Completely changed my view of one of my kids and has definitely changed how I communicate with my kids. Time will tell if these tactics work in changing behavior for them but it has certainly made me a more empathetic parent.
