Loved this memoir about a devout queer Muslim immigrant. So inspired by her story.

And I promised myself that if a conversation wasn’t constructive  I would …  allow myself and them the dignity of leaving. And I began to write. Sick of being reactive,  of standing up for my beliefs in these one off encounters that only created further division, I took this new way of interacting, using questions, softness, and vulnerability and brought it to the written word. There is an inherent quietness to reading that I hoped would create space for people to absorb, reflect, consider, or if they shared my views, to feel a little less alone in the crushing powerlessness of pointless fights. This quieter form of fighting has offered me the ability to protect those things that make my life feel worth feeling.

The story telling in this memoir was very captivating. I usually take a few days when I'm listening to a memoir but I ate this one up in a day and a half. I couldn't put it down.
