an excellent read to start Pride month. i want to be friends with the author.

I fear the people who criticize this haven’t actually read the whole book lol. This is a very important memoir that I think everyone, but especially Muslims need to read. The structure was clever, and I liked that each chapter was a story of a Prophet. I would have rated it higher, but it felt a little too repetitive and persuasive essay-ish to me. I understand why people would have a problem with this, and I have my own criticisms, but I hope people can look past their prejudices when reading.

I am not a big memoir fan but I loved how she expressed herself so clearly and wove in tales of the Quran in an allegorical way. Her deep belief in Islam really shone through in a beautiful way, and gave me a new perspective

Loved! Learned a lot but also an easy fast read. Also pretty sure I’ve done the hike they were on at the end?!

I loved this memoir. As someone who is generally uninterested in/ignorant of religion, I learned so much, and Lamya expertly weaved their story with stories from the Quran. I also identified with Lamya’s yearning for community/found family, and I also understood their struggles with deciding what parts of self to share with whom.

This memoir is great. I loved how Lamya H juxtaposed stories from the Quran with experiences in her own life and queerness. And how she drew comfort from those stories. A truly great first book for Pride month about finding yourself. This is a great pick for book club this month and I'm so excited to discuss!
emotional inspiring
