A fun first foray into the world of superheroes and comics for middle grade readers. It is in the DC universe (batman and the gotham knights are mentioned) but has a lighter tone. However, this tone does not stop it from providing emotional depth and creating engaging and relatable characters. A good read for fans of superheroes who aren't quite ready for teen level comics but still want a good story.
Graphic: Emotional abuse
Minor: Fire/Fire injury, Gun violence, and Abandonment

This was a cute, creative, touching origin story! The action moves right along but leaves enough time for the emotional beats of the foster parents, the art studio, the new friendship, etc. The art is warm and vibrant and lively with the perfect touch of cuteness and attitude. I didn't love the ending, just because I didn't want that to be the last word.
Moderate: Bullying, Child abuse, Emotional abuse, Gun violence, Kidnapping, and Violence
Minor: Murder
Comic book fantasy combat violence, foster care system, group home, prison scenes, three off-screen murders (one implied, two started), graffiti, sneaking out/running away
