Loved this! It’s implied the boy is Neil Armstrong based on the dedication but that isn’t made clear in the book. However the impact of the moon and the inspiration the child has is made clear.

This is such a sweet book with beautiful illustrations about a boy who loves the moon and how he grows up watching it and caring about it and then visiting it!

The journey of a young boy who sees that the moon is sad and so he sends him kites throughout his life as his passion related to the moon until at last, he comes for a visit.

Well, this was just a huge disappointment. You're a woman writer, it's 2019, and you want to write a book about a child who visits the moon...and what do you do? Cast the main character as a little boy, like every other children's book. The illustrations are ...eh, ok..., but this absolutely missed the mark.
Who's the hero?
And who watches?

Very nice book. It is difficult for an author to break out of a mold once in one. Congrats, Yolen, on being able to do so many times over. How do Dinosaurs... etc.
This book features a child who wants to get a message to the moon. From a little shirtless boy on a beach sending his kite to the moon to a grown man in a rocket visiting the moon we see the child grow. He never forgets the moon, though, and the moon never forgets him.

It is only fitting to start off a celebration of the lunar landing anniversary with an homage to Neil Armstrong. A Kite For The Moon is an imagining of Armstrong’s childhood and love for the moon that helped him reach great heights.
On an early morning, the moon is shining in the sky feeling a bit lonely and sorry for herself. A small boy wants to make her feel better and so he sends her a note flying high on his kite that he will come to visit someday. The moon watches over the boy as he grows and learns until one day he takes off in a rocket ship to fulfill his promise.
The artwork is lovely, muted earth tones full of movement and expression capturing the growing relationship between the boy and the moon beautifully.
This book is a wonderful way to jump-start a conversation about the lunar landing, the moon, or just working to achieve a goal.
