The level of lore in this book is unreal! The complex religion and dark community is great! It is a slow start and things don’t truly pick up until page 250, the simmering tension is great! And Wren’s growth is fantastic! This book is dark, and there is some gore so proceed with caution.

3.5 ✨ rounded up

The Bonekeeper’s Daughter delivers a truly intriguing and original premise, brought to life by some of the best writing I’ve encountered in a long time. Elise Fry has a remarkable talent putting pen to paper to build the world in which Wren lives.

The book has a unique why-choose trope in that it’s seemingly for men stuck in the friend zone. Kaden takes the cake for me on this one….but also.. maybe Lorcan?!

As other readers have mentioned, the pacing is definitely on the slower side. The book feels like a story of two halves, with a somewhat abrupt shift 75% through. That said, Fry’s writing kept me engaged, and I really enjoyed the final 25% of the book. The cliffhanger ending will have me picking up book 2.

Overall, this book had beautiful writing and an imaginative concept. While the slow burn might not be for everyone, those who can push through will find a lot to love here.

Big thanks to Elise Fry and NerdFam for the ARC!

This devastatingly dark story shows you the chaos that happens when men control every aspect of your life. The roller coaster of female rage, unbearable sorrow, and betrayal has me thinking about this story long after I put it down. This is the darkest fantasy book I’ve ever read, and it leans into horror. It also secured a spot in my god tier level series. I can’t wait to see where it goes after that crazy ending. The BoneKeepers Daughter is on KU, and I just picked up a shelf trophy.
Thank you to The Nerd Fam and Elise Fry for the ARC.

This was a really unique story, and I really enjoyed it. Wren is the BoneKeeper, making sure the souls of the departed go where they need to be, and communicating their messages to the world. But the council has other ideas, going against ancient traditions, and angering the Bones themselves.

As Wren navigates the Bones, the Bones navigate the changes in the world on a much greater scale. What the council wants is sure to doom them all, but they refuse to see it. As more parts of Wren emerge, we get a really cool look at her beneath the Bones.

Thank you to The Nerd Fam and author Elise Fry for this gifted ebook.

This was a long one. But I am invested lol There is so much that is happening. We get multiple POVs and so much is still left to tell.
The description says this a why choose dark romantasy but we don’t see any of the romance or why choose part in this book. We see some potential love interests but they have yet to be established. This is definitely a dark fantasy though. This is an interesting concept I haven’t seen before. The Bonekeeper is usually a position that is revered within their community but things have changed with this last set of leaders in the council and they take a turn. She has to figure things out and quickly. But she finds pitfalls along the way.

I look forward to book two to get more of the story.
