In less than three chapters, I was crying. I knew within the first three chapters of reading that I would fall in love with this book. By the first five chapters, I knew [in my bones ;)] that this was going to become one of my favorite books. By the last line, Elise Fry managed to steal the spot for my all time favorite book. This isn’t just ONE of my favorites, it is my new all time favorite.

There is so much for me to say here about how incredible this book is. It’s a slow burn, and I mean SLOW but the burn hurts so good. It’s worth it. If you’re looking for spice, you won’t necessarily find it in this book but I do suspect there will be some spice in later installments!

From act one, our little keeper is punching you right in the feels. Her monologues and internal dialogue truly brought the Bonekeeper to life. Her troubles become yours, and her joys and her curiosities. I found her character to be so amazingly complex and well thought out. She has so many lovely twists and secrets! At no point do we actually know everything there is to know about our Wren.

The interests??? Chefs kiss. To die for. There’s a trope for everyone in each love. I was begging for more of each one by the end of it.

I am in awe of how well every character is fleshed out in this book. Seriously, I feel as though even the side characters have their own character arcs! I really don’t want to say too much, I hate reviews with spoilers.

What I will say? I’m jealous of everyone who gets to read this book for the first time. I’ll be chasing this book high for a while to come. I can only hope Elise writes her next book fast, because that cliff hangar is a doozy. I am foaming at the mouth for more of my favorite soul.

Thank you to The Nerd Fam for the gifted eARC.  #thenerdfam

This book is MASSIVE! it may be in the top 5 largest books i have ever read. But the size is worth its weight in story telling.

This story follows Wren as she lives in a village and holds one of the most important positions: the bonekeeper. She guides the dead to their bones so that they may tell their stories and live on in bone and only she can hear them. He life is not easy and is filled with many different struggles that shape her into the headstrong woman she is.

This book is heavy in its world building but that is why I love it so much. The world is so detailed and so thought out that I can picture it all and have no questions that are unanswered. My only issue with the world building is that sometimes a memory enters the current scene in an abrupt way. At one moment, you are having a conversation and the next you have exposition explaining the lore or history. It can be a bit confusing but as I read on I understand that it is similar to the way Wren thinks.

This book could have ended at 2 major cliffhangers but it didnt. It kept going. Had it ended at either of those spots, I would have been devastated at not knowing what comes next but the ending it does have, has me screaming. I need to know what happens next, and I need it now.

If you want a very though out world building, deep lore and a group of wonderful and clueless men who follow around our heroine, then pick up this book June 7th!! Once this sorry gets going, there is no putting it down!

5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I was lucky enough to receive an eARC of this book through The Nerd Fam and Elise Fry!

What can I say about The Bonekeeper's Daughter other than I utterly loved it? This book was dense in a beautiful world building way (think When the Moon Hatched), but so worth the effort to read it! The pacing is very slow to start with, but I felt it did pick up within the first 100 pages or so. I think this book undeniably needed a large info dump to start along with the descriptions of the world to truly bring you into it!

The world building was eerie and intriguing and I really enjoyed the aspect of the bones in this story and how they were able to help our FMC Wren throughout it. The politics/hierarchy in this book was also very interesting to me and I hope we inevitably see more into how members of the village are called to their positions and what all the other positions entail.

I found the concept very unique and it made me not want to put this book down. I simultaneously wanted to finish the book to see how it would end, but also read slowly so I could savor all the information being given to me.

This is billed as a why choose romance that's a slow burn and when Elise says slow burn, we're talking book 1 of this trilogy is going to hit you with about 0.5/5 with the spice. This didn't disappoint me in the least bit and instead I found myself guessing who some of our love interests will be! A couple seem obvious, but I'm seeing that Elise might be cruel about some of those! Guess we'll have to wait for book 2.

Be forewarned, this is going to end on a cliffhanger, but the cliffhanger is delicious so I'm not even disappointed. I can't wait to dive into book 2 as soon as it comes out!

Again, thank you to The Nerd Fam and Elise for the eARC. I had a wonderful time reading it!

I absolutely loved this book! I truly couldn't put it down.

The world building was incredible and so immersive. Such a wonderfully eerie atmosphere. The pacing is slow but honestly I think that really helps with setting the tone and I enjoyed it.

Wren is such an interesting main character and I loved her character growth throughout the story as well as her various relationships developing. It's worth noting that while this is billed as a slow burn why choose dark romantasy, the slow burn is very, very slow so if you're looking for a lot of spice, that doesn't happen in book one. I'm so excited to see what's next for the characters though, especially after that ending!

Thanks to Elise Fry and The Nerd Fam for the eARC!

The BoneKeeper, Wren, is tasked with Guiding souls to rest and sharing their memories long after their passing. The bones begin to stir when drastic changes are made by the Councilors in the village. Wren must decide whether she should shrink in to submission to their ways or stand against the rulers who the bones are wary. As tides are changing, Wren must determine who she can trust and which path she must follow.

The concept of this book was extremely unique and overall so fascinating to me. The folklore and world building was intense at times, but helped paint a picture of how the world came to be. Occasionally, Wren would slip from the present into the past and there were a few times I couldn’t track what was happening as it was a bit unclear. I felt like many of the stories told as folklore could have been interesting short stories.

This book is marketed as a slow burn why choose, but to me this feels a bit misleading. There are men that come into Wren’s life at various points that she is clearly attracted to and seems to be drawn to. But there are very short bursts of romantic elements, and to me it felt as though she finally found someone to just take her loneliness away as she does not have friends. I’m not sold on this being a “romance”.

About 3/4 of the way into to the book, the plot changes a bit and I was confused as to what entirely is happening. There is a massive plot twist that unveils the BoneKeeper may be more than she lets on, which is a constant theme in this story. However, the general plotting and ending didn’t quite make sense to me because even though it ends on a plot twist it felt harshly abrupt. I also am very uncertain about what’s going to happen next because it seems very muddy and unclear. I’m a bit disappointed in that because I’m beyond intrigued with this world and think there is so much potential.

Thank you to the Nerd Fam and Elise Fry for this eARC in exchange for an honest review!
