Well written about the impacts of assault, even when you can’t remember it.

Ooft! A challenging but very important listen. I appreciated being able to hear Chanel’s story in her own voice.

Chanel is GIFTED. I listened to this on audiobook (she narrates) and it felt like having a very nice friend in my ears. This book is weird to read or listen to when you don’t believe in incarceration because so much of it is rooted in her wanting a longer prison sentence for her perpetrator but but she’s still amazing. Five stars!!

I was skeptical to read (1) a memoir, and (2) that discusses an aspect of the feminist cause.
I feared that it would treat rape in the same way as every lecture on the subject, that as a woman I know them all too well, and wouldn't renew any aspect about rape in a patriarchal society - but I was so wrong!

Know My Name addresses being the victim of a rape in a fresh way and enriching manner!
The memoir sheds light on the meaning of pressing charges and the consequences of the judicial process - the dehumanization, the trauma, and the daily violence the victim has to live with.
"This was no longer a fight against my rapist, it was a fight to be humanized. I had to hold on to my story, figure out how to make myself heard. If I didn’t break out, I’d become a statistic."

Chanel Miller succeeded to reclaim her name, but most victims unfortunately can't.
This memoir was very informative and inspiring.
Chanel is a fighter. We should all listen to her words to keep on fighting for women to have their own voices heard.

"You do all you can in the time that you have. By time she meant lifetime, that over the span of our lives we may not see everything we want corrected, but still we fight."

Powerful and heartbreaking. I'm glad I got to know her name and learn the story.
