I couldn't put the book down.
A bit darker than I like, but very well written.

A  veteran faces his past while trying to protect the curvy vet he secretly loves. He's a sexy, misunderstood bad boy with a lot of trauma and a heart of gold. She's the type-A golden girl with a checklist. Their romance is hot and steamy from start, but the connection takes a while to build, mostly because of her hot/cold and list obsession. He's a total goner for her; very devoted and protective of her. And the little things he does for her are so sweet.

I loved his complexity, his healing journey, and his adorable dog, Spirit. But I
really disliked how she abandoned him after he saved her, that sucked to the max
! I was really rooting for his HEA, and
she didn't really deserve him after that stunt
. The suspense is great, with the podcast touch. This would have been a minimum 4🌟 read for me if
not for the random breakup

Donovan Scott. I love that man. My heart absolutely broke as we learn more about his past. Sasha thought she had her life planned until she spent a night with Donovan and those plans got turned upside down. These two are fire together. This one hurt, but you could feel the love Donovan has for Sasha and how far gone he is for this girl. And the suspense?! I couldn’t put it down.

Searching for Risk
Redwood Coast Rescue, Book 2
By: Tonya Burrows
Narrated by: Stephen Borne, Auri Alden

This is the kind of book I adore! The kind that gets your blood pumping and your heart thumping! Tonya Burrows continues her Redwood Coast Rescue series and this book features Donovan and Sasha. Sasha is ready to make her move. With some liquid courage, she goes into the masked party, ready to seduce Ash, but finds herself in bed with the devil himself. But is her really? Donovan has had a tough life. An abusive childhood, a heartbreak, and a tour in the military has lead him back home only to have his past come back to haunt him. But his heart is true, and it is with Sasha. Will she see through the lies and help fight for his innocence? Will the danger that is lurking ever dissipate? And why is it back? Burrows weaves a fabulous tale with an original feel adding a true crime podcast to the mix. It's refreshing, suspenseful and romantic. Cannot get better than that!

Stephen Borne continues his narration of this fabulous series, and a better voice could not bring this story alive. His rasp and tone are perfect as the broken Donovan, and he easily finds his way to Sasha giving her an amazing female voice. Add in Auri Alden giving the true crime podcast and the suspense builds against Borne's storytelling. It's a phenomenal listen.

I liked Donovan. For him to have suffered under the scrutiny of the town for 15 years was too much. It made me wonder why his "friend" Ash hadn't looked at the case before now.

I wished Donovan could have found a woman in his life that truly cared about him. Darcy only wanted him so she could get out of town, and Sasha had no faith in his innocence.

I didn't understand Donovan and Sasha's relationship anyway. He fell for her a year before they connected. She went to the party to seduce someone else. Did Sasha not notice Donovan for an ENTIRE year? What was up with that?

I thought this book was more about Donovan's TBI and the suspicion hanging over his head than his romance with Sasha. Don't get me wrong. I did think the mystery was more interesting than the romance.

I also found it irritating that the podcast cast suspicion on Donovan on each episode. When all the twists and turns came to light, there was no podcast detailing his exoneration.

I did enjoy listening to this audiobook. I thought the narrators did a good job.

Searching for Risk is the second book in the Redwood Coast Rescue series. The books can be read as standalones but once you read this one, you will want to read them all. It is just that good! The book was full of emotions and suspense that kept me reading until the end. I loved the characters and when I got to the end, I wanted more.

This was the first book I have read by this author and I actually snagged all three in the series because the descriptions of all of them were so compelling and had me absolutely hooked! And I was not disappointed. This book put me through the emotional wringer in the best kinds of ways. I was caught up in my feelings throughout the entire thing. It was extremely well written and I basically devoured the entire thing. There was no pause between reading this one and the next one in the series.

Tonya has so many great strengths as an author, made abundantly clear by this book. She also has a knack for character redemption. I don't want to give anything away or write anything that could possibly spoil a single moment of this amazing book so I will just say there are characters you form opinions on pretty early on within the book only to have them evolve and change page by page in surprising ways and you could end up with completely different opinions of them by the end of the book.
