I just listened to this audiobook with my children and it was delightful. The dog character periodically says laugh out loud funny things and the mystery is well-plotted with enough clues for kids to make good predictions about what happens.

Animal book. Mystery. The dog tells the story. This will be an instant hit with students who love dog stories!

So fun. I see why my daughter has been begging me to read it. It is strongly reminiscent of Chomp, her other favorite book, but Bowser is a unique narrator.

#1 Birdie & Bowser

Woof is the start of a new series by Spencer Quinn, author of the Chet & Bernie mysteries. It’s narrated by Bowser who sounds, perhaps not surprisingly, very much like Chet – that is, dumb but smart, hilarious, & loveable. His new mistress is 11-year-old Birdie who lives on the Louisiana coast with her Grammy. When a prize stuffed marlin is stolen from Grammy’s bait and tackle shop, Birdie and Bowser take on the case.

This is a charming start to what is no doubt an excellent series, but I do prefer the adult version (Chet & Bernie).

It reminded me of reading Hank the Cowdog. I think there was some room for improving Bowsers narrations to make him more believable but otherwise it was cute.
