Murder doesn't take a holiday when you run a junior detective agency. Daisy Wells and Hazel Wong are the duo behind the Wells & Wong Detective Agency, and though they are visiting Daisy's brother at Maudlin College for the Christmas holiday they are about to come across their next case. This time, however, they are in competition with another junior detective agency. With their reputation on the line, the race is on the solve a murder before Christmas morning. Will they get to enjoy their holiday, or will it be soured by loss of multiple kinds?

Wells and Wong are back; in Cambridge for Christmas this time, and SURPRISE, Happy Christmas girls, there's a body to deal with. Which of course they do in their inimitable style, assisted by none other than the Junior Pinkertons. Now *that* sets the cat amongst the Daisy-shaped pigeons, which is really very funny to watch through Hazel's eyes. Whispering along in the background is another plot entirely; a fascinating look at what it was like to be a woman at university in the thirties, and a further three non-white characters. Stevens deftly weaves all this together into a pleasing Christmas murder mystery.

Robin Stevens just gets how a good detective story should work. I loved the story and it was a good setting. I could feel the Dorothy sayers bleeding into the story. Whilst the feminism was a little heavy handed it might work well for teenagers. I loved watching wells and Wong grow up a bit more and seeing some of the gay subtexts being hinted at more and more. It was great!
