Anne Carson's translations are beautiful, this book definitely made me want to read more from her.
The fragments of Sappho are lovely and though I wish we had more of her work preserved today, I'm glad we have what we do. While reading I had quite a few moments where I thought, "I want this line framed on my wall or tattooed on my body."

(took me a while to finish this because i wanted to have a copy of the poems while i was going through the notes so i could appreciate and study them properly)

man... anne carson has such vulnerable translations it's not fair... a full 5 stars for me because these poems are just so good

The translations were pretty lyrical at times. I can’t imagine having actually read this in its true version. I am not much for poetry, although I did think Sappho was a pretty darn good, captivating read for me.
