I loved this so much!

I’m a sucker for a good Shakespeare retelling/reimagining. And this graphic novel, a spin on Macbeth focused on the witches, was everything I love about that genre. It gave such amazing backstory and expanded roles for some of the most interesting characters in one of my favorite plays.

Also, the art is sooooo gorgeous! I love the character designs for the witches, especially how each embodies an element (earth/water/air), and how their familiars relate to that. There’s also diversity in the background characters, which was a cool plus.

I can’t recommend this book enough. It’s beautifully told and beautifully illustrated!

Great art and neat world. Provides some interesting insight into the background of Macbeth but ultimately I think is suffocated by adhering to that plot.

So freaking cool. I loved getting the witches' perspectives on Macbeth, and I am definitely tempted to read The Scottish Play again. The ending felt rather rushed, but the discussion at the end is brilliant (I'd give this a 4.5). Includes discussion questions if you ever wanted to read as a book club or in the classroom...definitely lots of food for thought!

Panels Read Harder: As I have been heartily disappointed with my options for comic-based-on-a-book-and-the-book-it's-based-on, I'm going to read/listen to the actual play of Macbeth (again) and call my Panels Read Harder complete!

I have such a soft spot for Macbeth & really enjoyed this sideways view of the story. Scott does a great job of building an interesting backstory for our witches three, though I wish the plot/ending flowed a bit better. More side character view stories! They're the best!

This comic was a little difficult to understand without re-reading. It's better if you know the plot of Macbeth. There are a lot of characters who don't get much introduction, and they also die quickly. The plot moves very quickly without much explanation.

I need to own this book. Visually stunning, well researched, and altogether entertaining. I want to read it again!
