another hit. banger after banger. i am so totally engrossed by these characters and their stories i can't wait to read the next book but I will wait because I don't want the series to end for me just yet. I can't wrangle all my thoughts here right now but I will soon. brb.
Siento que volví a tardar mucho en leer este libro, la verdad me encanta Elena Ferrante pero siempre me pasa igual: al inicio de los libros todo bien, como a la mitad empiezo a angustiarme y a sufrir con los personajes, lo dejo un tiempo y cuando retomo es una obsesión por saber qué va a pasar y terminar lo más pronto posible, para al final quedarme sentada por horas viendo el vacío mientras digiero ESE final. Es una genia, la amo.
El libro me gustó muchísimo, siento que leer el relato de Lenu entre sus 20s y 30s me hizo identificar mucho, todo eso de terminar la universidad y buscar tu camino. Lo de probar nuevas cosas, nuevas amistades, nuevas ideas, regresar al lugar de origen para darte cuenta que ideas que en otros sitios están bien, allí no puedes aceptarlas fácilmente… y todo el retrato del matrimonio y la maternidad es muy auténtico. De nuevo odiamos mucho a Nino Sarratore que nomás aparece para hacer de las suyas y luego irse sin consecuencias a sus actos, pero este final ha sido el más impactante de todos, no puedo esperar al último libro.

The parts of this book that are about Elena and Lila are still deeply compelling, but through much of it I was frustrated or annoyed. Perhaps that’s part of the realism that makes it so compelling, but it also feels improbable that certain other characters continue to carry such weight in Elena’s story.

These books are hard to review on their own as the story just continues from book to book without really hard boundaries.
However book 2 and 3 are very alike and suffers both from a tendency to drag and wind on a little to long.
That said, the story are fascinating and describes a period and a country that are rarely in focus.

The most wonderful book. Beautifully written as ever but the themes of ‘Those Who Leave and Those Who Stay’ elevate it above the first two of the series. The political themes especially are incredibly well woven but it’s the study of the relationships between the characters that made me really love Elena more than ever. I have a theory that the narrator is Lenu and Lila working in partnership.
