For such a short work, you know what you're going to get as far as content and pacing. It's a pretty fun little work of erotica. A few parts made me cringe, but it's fun. There's a surprising amount of sweetness. I think that given the length of the work,

the time jump at the end

is really unnecessary, but it's fine for what it is.

There's some aspects of the story that could be uncomfortable in relation to consent.

One of the characters being a creation of the government means he's young and extremely sheltered. The story presents itself as a "fuck or die" sort of thing, though this trope is subverted in the end, as it's revealed the character who was "sick" faked it in order to have a chance to be with the other.

I am not really into prolonged sex scenes. But this wasn't bad at all and the plot, however little, was interesting.

Usually I am not a big fan of short stories, as I tend to like longer narratives, but this story by Missy Welsh is perfectly constructed. I felt like I had a good grasp of the character's emotions and motivations (in only a few thousand words!) plus it was just so much fun to read. Highly recommended!
