Crying my eyes out. Evan is the villain, but I can’t hate him. Even after watching the Broadway musical, this book hits hard. It burns. I heavily relate to Connor. I’ve dealt and still deal with mental illness, s*lf harm and passive s*icidal ideation. It makes me feel heard knowing I am not alive. It hurts knowing Connor suffered until he couldn’t anymore. This book is important. This book educates. I’ve lived with chronic anxiety all my life and the way Evan’s anxiety is described is so accurate and well formatted. I love the raw emotion of this book, though I will admit I shed a few tears.the_chocolate_bookshelf's review against another edition

I found Dear Evan Hansen to be a wonderful book and I really related to both Connor and Evan. The only issue is the discussion of suicide. The Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention has 8 guidelines for media when it involves suicide. Other countries have very similar guidelines about it. DEH meets 7 out of the 8, which you'd think is good but they messed up on the most important one. "•Avoid showing or describing the details of suicide methods." Connor's suicide and Evan's attempted suicide are both described. The reason you're not supposed to describe them is because it makes suicidal people want to try it. Other than that I really liked it. (I was going to say "enjoyed it" but I didn't. The first dinner scene is rife with second hand embarrassment.)
