While seemingly predictable, I really liked the way the characters were interwoven and some things kept you guessing. I agree that the end felt a little rushed but the rest of it kept flowing. I think another fifty pages would have resulted in a very different feel.
I appreciated that the audiobook stated at the beginning of each chapter what the timeline was, something that is often overlooked in audiobooks.

From the beginning, your heart is sinking and twisting hearing the story of a girl locked in the basement of her captor. There are many other instances where the author takes you on this whirlwind of a ride anxiously waiting to know how things pan out.
I loved the different character perspectives. I felt that this broke up the novel really well, and it added to the layer of grief and suspense. However, one point of view I feel lacks is that of the detectives. There are a lot of moments (as many other reviews point out) that just do not feel realistic, and this can deter readers from the overall attachment to the book. I’m shocked that the details and suspects that Kate so easily digs up aren’t a thought to the cops. One suspect and story we never fully get answers to…then again, the clear incompetence demonstrated later on by “lady cop” that’s bizarre and feels far fetched says a lot about how we are supposed to view the detectives in this town. (Not going into detail to prevent any spoilers).
Anyway, I felt like it was enough to keep me reading until the very end. I did enjoy the character development for some as well. I’d recommend the read.

Overall loved it. The ending felt a tiny bit dragged out and I was definitely not a fan of the chapters with the OBGYN as they felt like the author’s personal views. Otherwise very good and I would recommend this book.
