It was a fun read but I also don't know that there needed to be, like, quite so much sexual violence, and it felt like a very modern take on identity, sexuality and romantic love (plus shoehorn of caricatured homophobic priest) which somehow made less interesting than it could have been as a piece of historical fiction.
