Based on the true story of The Holy Maid of Leominster, which I had no prior knowledge of before I'd finished the book which meant I had no idea where the plot was heading. This led me to almost dnf at 45%, because the plot seemed almost wayward. However, by the end, all of the strange places the plot went in the first half made so much sense. So I'm glad that I stuck with it.
The narration/writing style was interesting. I completely understand why Tibb narrated this way, but at times I found it such a struggle to read. The quick 2-3 page chapters kept me reading though and provided a welcome relief from the writing style at times.
Overall, I enjoyed the purpose of the story in telling the tale of Tibb, in a witty and refreshing way compared to most historical fiction. Tibb, and tbh all of the characters, were fun to follow and I absolutely wanted the best for them all, which obviously being set in the reign of Henry VII meant stakes were high at all times. This book irritated me and enthralled me in equal measure. I'm not sure where that leaves me sitting on it, but absolutely glad I read to the end.

A good read with an engaging voice that pulls you along. Felt that the engagement with early modern outsiders and sexuality was a little surface level and that it all wraps up a little too neatly, but overall I enjoyed my time with this.

This book grew on me as I became entangled within the story. But overall I found the language and repetition frustrating. A solid 3 stars
