I'm gradually adding books I've read in 2021 to give a true reflection of the books I've read since keeping records.  This was the first book I read in 2021, and is what kick-started my reading journey having put reading on the  back burner whilst bringing up the children, previously being an avid reader. The first of the seven sister series I read concentrating on Maia, who alongside her sisters was adopted at birth. They are all handed clues to their birth stories after their adoptive father dies. This particular story is set in Rio. It was recommended by a fellow patient when I was in hospital and I'm so grateful for this recommended. A long book that felt short.

I was drawn to this book having seen book reviews on Instagram about some of the other books in this series and, as I am a folklorist with a love of mythology, I was fascinated by the author gaining inspiration from the Seven Sisters myths.

I enjoyed reading this book, particularly the historical research and detail involved in creating Izabela's world. I previously had no knowledge of the design and construction of the Christ the Redeemer statue and loved learning about it throughout the book.

Some of the dialogue could have been better phrased and certain scenes felt unnecessary. Some sentences were striking, however, because they carried gems of truth at their core.

I like the fact that this is a series and that the various mysteries and unanswered questions already alluded to in this first book will be explored and more details will be revealed as the series progresses. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

A cutesy romance that provided interesting insight into 1920s Brazil. Sets a good foundation for the series.

The depiction of Asperger's, which by the way is just autism, is disgusting
