This is possibly the most British thing I have ever read. Imagine Mr. Carson of Downton Abbey chattering offhandedly to you about his life as you vacation together. Though the pace is slow throughout, I enjoyed hearing about the narrator's cloistered life as he performs his menial tasks to the backdrop of history. The bits of unreliable narration are also satisfying. This is perhaps the perfect thing to listen to as you work on a tedious puzzle and avoid your family over the holidays.

A true masterwork. I don’t think I’ve ever seen more intricately written internality (and repression) in any other novel.
