I loved this book. It was romantic, operatic, and heart-wrenching. The characters are vivid and nuanced which makes them seem real. I fell in love with Russia.

"Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way."
Wow, fucking brilliant right? I give 5 stars to that sentence alone. The rest of the novel.........is long. Really, really fucking long. The thing is I don't really care so much for romance. I know, it defies every law I have ingrained into me as a female, but its the truth. To be honest, it bores me a bit. So a 900+ page novel about love, rich people, adultery, etc. is not really my cup of tea. I'm not gonna lie, I skipped around a bit. That said, for a classic book (another thing of which I am not the biggest fan) it was pretty good. Its not that hard to read, though the way Tolstoy writes the thoughts of the characters got on my nerves a bit, I mean people don't really think like that. Well at least I don't. The narrative wasn't to hard too understand, but for a 900+ novel, there was a lot of sitting around and talking about nothing. I didn't hate it, not by any means, I get why it is so highly regarded, and my love for the first sentence is so great it almost ties with my favorite all time opening line from my favorite all time story, Peter Pan. Its just a bit too long and romancy for my taste.
