This was a compulsive, harrowing read. I couldn’t put it down. Ruth’s love for her siblings was beautiful and her bravery incredible.

What a beautiful, heartbreaking book. She is such a fantastic writer!!!! I don’t rate memoirs because I feel like you can’t put a rating on someone’s pain/trauma/experiences, but this was a book I will be thinking about for a long time.

I finished this book in one day. The beginning is a slowish build but then it picks up and I could not put it down. The end had me tearful and I was so grateful for the epilogue. Incredible well written!

A heartbreaking true story that will stay with you. You are always in my heart Ruthie.

Super sad yet very inspiring story.
challenging dark emotional sad tense fast-paced

So-so. And then childhood sexual assault? I'm out. Didn't finish.

This book was a bit slow to grab my attention but once I got a few chapters in, I couldn't put it down. Mainly because as a mother I kept reading in the hopes that her mother would at some point finally do right by her children. I appreciated the author not approaching this with any self pity and what broke my heart the most was knowing that any child would suffer like this, but maintain some level of a childhood for herself and her siblings. It's hard to read at times, but well worth the read.
