Listen. The writing was not good. The characters were also not good. But the ANGST. The DRAMA. It was next level, so that bumps it up to 2 stars and now I need to read the second one because I need resolution.

It's time. Here's a challenge: for those of you who have seen the adaptation, place a grape in your mouth every time I mention how many pages this book is (hint, have a lot of grapes on hand).

It has taken me two weeks to write this review because this book legitimately made me angry and I needed a break from it. That being said, I stand by what I said before: this is the worst book I have ever read.

The plot... wtf. WTF. First things first: this book did not need to be 600 pages. I still can't believe that it is six HUNDRED pages. It was so redundant, and the "drama" wasn't even fun for me. This could have easily been cut down by 300+ pages and it would've maybe made it a 2 star for me. Although it's extremely long, it is easy to get through, which I guess is a positive? Even though it was a quick read (for it being 600 pages), I just was not invested in the story whatsoever. I just didn't care. The frequent "slut-shaming" was TOO MUCH, and don't even get me started on how flippantly sexual assault/attempted sexual assault was handled in this. Like WHAT. And on top of all of that, it was so predictable (which again is fine, but at least make me invested in someone's story).

The characters... YIKES. All of the characters in this are terrible and hardly developed which is amazing considering it's SIX HUNDRED FLIPPING PAGES. I have read a lot of unlikeable characters in my time, but let me tell you: Hardin takes the cake. This dude is so overdramatic, violent, and...disturbing (I really read approx. 580 pages just to find out the creep kept Tessa's bloody sheets). I get it, he's "tough" and has unresolved issues in his life. But OH MY GOD let's throw in some different conflicts/different ways he handles said conflicts. It literally got predictable - the way he acted. Storm off, break things, say "I love you Tessuh", repeat. Over and over again. Yawn.

Look, I knew what this was going to be before I read page 1 of 600. But I guess I just wasn't expecting to actually hate it. I thought it was going to be a fun hate-read but it just wasn't. This should've stayed on Wattpad ya'll - I said what I said.
