I hate the toxic relationship between the main characters with my whole being so I gave the 2 stars base on how I felt about them. But I’m going to read the next book because I want to know what’s going to happen next after the ending of AFTER. Should I even be wasting my time? I don’t know… but here goes!

Después de todo no estuvo tan mal, aunque eso no quita que haya sido tedioso, ya que lo fue. No está para nada dentro de las mejores lecturas que tuve, pero tampoco dentro de las peores

Ok this is a rough one for me…. One I already knew what was going to happen because I saw the movie when it came out….. two this first book is literally my college experience.

After follows a young conservative girl as she leaves home for the first time and heads off to college. Where she will be safe from the “horrors” of the world because she has the perfect boyfriend and an overbearing mother to keep her in line. Once at college she meets a group of punk kids, with piercings, tattoos and crazy hair and joins their group of friends, falling in love with one that is a total a**, who is nothing but rude to her at first. And is emotionally manipulative and abusive…
She eventually cheats on her boyfriend, goes out with this new guy…. Jumps in feet first, and goes as far as to move in with the guy that she only knew for 5 minutes….

Then to top it all off, big twist, she finds out she was apart of a bet…. And the only reason the boys were being nice to her was to sleep with her and take her VCard…… and she loses it. Never once does she think about all the things harden does that no one would do as part of a bet…. Going to his estranged father’s wedding….. just loses it… and the book ends.

Like I said this was hard for me because it is so personal…. Down to the whole being apart of a bet…. And in an abusive relationship….
The book though was entertaining…. And super fast paced… I will definitely be reading the next one…

Even though I gave this book 1 star, I didn't actually hate it. But I have to give all the credit to the fact that I read this together with my boyfriend as a joke. Like we literally sat on our bed in the evenings and read this and made fun of it/discussed everything that's wrong with it. :D

It was obvious that Anna Todd tried to give these characters some substance but I feel like it completely went wrong when she decided to make literally everyone a jerk. Like is there even anyone in the book who is genuinely nice or funny? I mean, this book was still funny, even without any planned comedic release, but really, that was for all the wrong reasons.
For example, I thought it was super funny how Tessa had a roommate for like half the book and she barely ever saw her. Later her roommate even got together with some guy, obviously just to have an excuse for Tessa to not have anybody in her dorm disturbing her and Hardin. Then why, Ms. Todd, don't you just give Tessa her own room? Her mom seemed unbelievably fancy and wealthy anyway which was weird considering how not well off Tessa was supposed to be, so why not just give her her own room?

The mom's character came across as very incomplete to me. She's constantly criticizing Tessa for, well, basically everything she does. In a fancy-mom way. This is not only extremely irritating (as the mother doesn't really add anything to the story, even though Anna Todd tried..) but also entirely unrealistic. Why are you so fancy, mom?!

Also, I liked how at one point towards the end of the book Tessa is like "Landon is one of my best friends" when actually she talked to him like 4 times during class. What a way to force a non-existent friendship on the reader. And for what reason? Landon had absolutely no business being in this book. He never helped with progression of the plot, he never gave Tessa any useful advice that she actually followed... and then there's his girlfriend. Like, why?

Same thing with Tessa's roommate Steph. Towards the end of the book she mentions what a good friend Steph has been to her. But... how? When she was never in their room ever and Tessa only saw her at a couple of parties? No wonder Tessa kept stealing Steph's make-up from their room.
But I understand. Because if Tessa wasn't delusional and they actually would've been friends for real, the amazing plot twist at the end wouldn't have made sense anymore. Because in real life, what kind of person would keep a secret like that from her best friend?

One last thing - that relationship! Oof.

Toxic!

Second read September 2020 - I didn’t enjoy this book quiet as much the second time as I did the first but I still think it was well done. I love how real the characters are and how much they make you feel right along with them. This book is a rollercoaster of emotions and life lessons (hmm?). Hardins behaviour bugs me sometimes but so does Tessas she is kind of controlling at times. However, Hardin is very secret and thinks you can solve anything by having sex.

May 21-23, 2019 (1st read) - This book is a heartbreaking roller coaster and I loved every minute of it! I devoured this book! I didn’t want to do anything but read it. On pay day I will have to buy the remaining 3 books I don’t have yet, right now I own this and the next one. I have to know what happens! I’m so invested in this story!!
I also didn’t see that cliff hanger coming at the end!
Honestly I wouldn’t take him back and forgive him, or at least I would hope that I wouldn’t. However in a sense I have been in this situation, though not to this extent, I was eventually smart enough to walk away. Maybe that is the reason I feel so close and attached to this story.
I did have issues with this story at times but not enough so me to not want to read it. It also reminds me of fifty shades of grey kind of.. I’m not sure which book came out first and strangely Christian has less issues then Hardin does. But I really enjoyed this book and I can’t wait to read the next one.

It's straight up Harry styles fanfiction so don't expect much. The writing is average to say the least, the male lead is really toxic although the book tries to romanticise that and the plot is overall rather boring
