Bettina L. Love does a phenomenal job of balancing anecdotal evidence and statistics to inform readers on how American schools have failed Black youth. I read this for a Systems and School Reform course and it has prompted such important discussions on school reforms of the past and how we make improvements to protect BIPOC students. This is a MUST-read if you are an educator, working in schools, have children in schools, or care about social justice/advocacy.

A fantastic study of the ways our education system continually harms marginalized students. Well researched, clearly explained, and incredibly relatable.

Highly recommend for educators and those curious about why our system is so damn broken. Great audio!

I really like her works. She is detailed, organized, provides all the data, and gives solutions based on facts.

Her style of writing shows where her biases are but gives information through thorough research.

I am always one who wants to change the system and I think Love shows us how we can start to do that on a larger scale.
