DNFing at 30%

For now I'm DNFing. I'm reading on audio and the constant change of POVs without a space from each other, also the fact that the 3 POVs sounded so similar is just confusing me. Maybe with the physical book it's easier to know that the POV changed but not on audio.

Its been an exceptionally long time since I read a Christian Fiction novel. I loved the setting, I liked one of the main characters very much. The other two were harder to love as they just kept repeating the same mistakes over and over and over without learning. It was a bit disjointing at first to realize there would be a third perspective, I didn't realize this story would revolve around two different romances.

I think the faith aspect of this novel was well handled and stays true to conservative values. Truth be told I think I was expecting a bit more, but it was still well done.

‘A Girl’s Guide to the Outback’ has left such a large imprint on my heart that I feel like it might have actually changed shape. The need to write down my thoughts as soon as I finished this book was so strong, it was like my brain was begging me never to forget this beautiful story.

The setting is stunning. Being an Aussie girl myself it was so refreshing to read of outback Australian farms, reminiscent of those featured in my childhood memories. Even for those unfamiliar with the environment, Kate’s accuracy and detail will have you feeling the hot Australian sun and smelling the warm Anzac biscuits as you devour this novel.

This book has everything; enduring romance, laugh out loud humour, tear evoking self discovery and a good dose of Aussie slang. The journey that Sam and Kim go on, both individually and together is such a beautiful and inspiring story of truly accepting yourself and seeking the truth in others. It reminds you to love who you were made to be, not to judge others too quickly and to let go of things that are holding you back. This, paired with the reminder of Gods undying love for each of us makes this a heartwarming story full of lessons that everyone needs to hear.

Thank you to Jessica Kate, Thomas Nelson Books & NetGalley for a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

When I received this novel, I didn't know that it was a sequel. It isn't listed as so, therefore, I had no clue. I read this book really with no problem, but after reading the first book, Love and Other Mistakes, I really understand the characters more than I did before and can give a true review on A Girl's Guide to the Outback.

The first thing I really enjoyed about this novel was the humor. Even through this is classified as a "Christian romance", I thought there were a lot of good moments that I didn't expect. There are some parts that are genuinely funny, but others that are so awkward that you can't help but giggle at the weirdness of it.

The characters were straight up damaged. I loved learning about Sam and Kimberly. I read their stories and I found it really interesting. They developed so well through this novel that by the end, I was really rooting for whatever outcome I was bound to get.

Learning about Australia was such an amazing part of this story. I've never traveled outside of the United States and I feel like I had been to Australia after reading this book. It was very detailed and I got to really see how Australians act and talk. I didn't think it was too over-the-top like some books with a foreign setting.

Overall, I think that Jessica Kate did a fantastic job with this one. I loved learning about the characters and how they work, by themselves and together. I am definitely giving her other novels a try!

Title: A Girl's Guide to the Outback

Author: Jessica Kate

Chapters: 40 Plus epilogue

Pages:368

Genre: Christian Rom Com

Rating: 5 stars

Publisher: Thomas Nelson

A Girl's Guide to the Outback is my second full-length novel by Jessica Kate. the first one, Love and Other Mistakes was good. I've also read her novella The Kiss Dare which was a cute short story but my favorite was A Girl’s Guide to the Outback. And after listening to the audio I want to get a passport and jump on a plane to Australia. I love Kimberly in this book even though I didn’t really like her in love and other mistakes but there she was foil to Natalie. It was also nice to Sam in his native Australia.

Jules and Mick pretty much stole the story at least in my opinion. I love when Rom Coms have a secondary couple.

Sam’s never have someone who’s had faith in him and believe that he can follow his dream like Kim does. Even though neither realizes it they bring out the best in each other and are prefect for each it just took a trip to rural Australia for Kim to see Sam in a new light and for Sam to see the real Kimberly.

I enjoyed this down under rom com in book form and look forward the next rom com Jessica Kate gives us.

A Girl's Guide to the Outback started a bit slowly for me, and as such I had trouble connecting with the book the first time I picked it up. I abandoned it and came back to it at a later date and once I got past the first 25 pages or so I was more in to it. I didn't initially realize that it is a Christian book but it wasn't overly preachy or in your face about it, it felt (mostly) natural and worked well with the story. I really enjoyed the book from Australia on and from that point found myself unable to put it down but to be honest I was really more connected to and interested in Jules and Mick's story than I was Sam and Kim's. All in all it was a good quick read, but it won't be on my favorites list.

Thanks to Netgalley and the Publisher for providing me with a copy of this book to review, all opinions are my own.

I was thrilled to read new to me author Jessica Kate’s recent release A Girl's Guide To The Outback. The intriguing title and cover of A Girl’s Guide to the Outback by Jessica Kate drew me in. The story follows American, Kimberly Foster, and Australia, Samuel Payton, on a dairy farm in Australian Outback. It was such a unique setting that I felt more informed about the world after reading this story. I love thinking I may have picked up some great Aussie slang along the way.

I am a big fan of romantic comedies, and I was hoping that I would be laughing and sighing as I read A Girl’s Guide to the Outback. The good news for me is that I was able to do both. I laughed out loud and there were many sigh worthy scenes throughout the book.

I feel like the author Jessica Kate is an author to watch. She is witty, her characters are interesting, and her story is fun to read. I highly recommend A Girl’s Guide to the Outback.
