Just as awesome as "Falling Kingdoms", "Rebel Spring" delivers a powerful story that enchanted me from the very beginning. Cannot wait to begin reading "Gathering Darkness".

God, those last five chapters are killer, aren't they? Pun intended. Spoilers - as always - ahead.

What an incredible difference between the first and second books of the Falling Kingdoms! The writing increased by leaps and bounds, the characters are jumping and dancing across the pages, and while I'm still gathering more questions than answers, such a complex tapestry is being weaved that one cannot help but be hopelessly drawn in.

I still cannot fathom how these books will become a series of six, but I can't complain when everything is so good!

Finally, the characters are learning more and more about each other. Cleo knows about Lucia, finally, and I believe I was right in my prediction that the two are intertwined. I have to grudgingly admit that Lucia is the true sorceress, but Cleo seems to hold the power Magnus and Jonas have concrete proof that Watchers are real, and Jonas has accidentally learned of Lucia's magic. The Kindred have caused quite a divide, but with 3 of our 4 main characters all out to get King Gaius off of the throne of Mytica, I can't help but wonder if this isn't Morgan Rhodes's way of potentially creating a team to defeat him. Lucia, however, is still a wildcard and still quite a mystery as a character. She doesn't know what she wants, why she wants anything, or what to do with herself. Depending on who can mold her first, her fears of being evil may come true.

My favorites of this novel were Magnus and, to my surprise, Jonas. Jonas's presence in Rebel Springs was a welcome surprise. Now that he has moved towards a definitive cause, he is making a difference and making points. Earlier, I called him nothing more than a viewpoint of poverty. Now, I call him a brazen rebel, and I say that with no shortage of pride. Also, not saying I told you so about Jonas and Cleo... but I did. It was still sudden and enjoyable that I can't help but enjoy it!

And then there's my sweet, confused Magnus. His confusion has only increased throughout the novel, as he is at war with himself and so out of his natural depths. I love how Rhodes illustrates his internal struggle through symbolism, especially the comparison of Limeros to Auranos and their climates. I'm so glad that Rhodes has chosen to take him down a path that will create a better Magnus, as he is quickly becoming my favorite character in this series.

One particular highlight of Rebel Springs is Aron's death. Literally, I wanted to throw a party. In spite of his learned tendencies, Magnus has a good sense of right and wrong, and killing Aron was the BEST thing he could ever do, honestly.

Also, a moment of silence for Brion and those poor rebels who have died, and all the others that have died in the quest for the Kindred.

Let me also mention Prince Ashur Cortas, who not only surprised me with his sudden kiss on Nico, but his interest in the Kindred. If Lucia, Jonas, Cleo, and Magnus all eventually come together to find the Kindred and Gaius is stopped, the Kraeshian Empire may prove to be a new enemy, especially when it is stated that they are a kingdom that conquers.

Thankfully, there's no wait to continue this series, as book 3 is sitting on my shelves at this very moment. However, that's the last available book, which means I'm facing an unknown cliffhanger as I type this now. Eva, give me strength.

Had potential and some parts of the plot intrigued me, but the writing was just so awful it took me out of the story. Characters were professing their love for someone they'd interacted with like 2 times.

After the war in the first book, Gaius rules over all the three kingdoms of Mystica. Cleo is a prisoner in her own palace after losing her sister and father, Jonas is a rebel against Gaius, Lucia is weakened by her massive use of power in helping her father, and Magnus stands by his father, next in line for the throne.

Basically, shit has gotten real and, I gotta say, I liked this book a lot better than the first one.

The first one involved a lot of set up for the rest of the series but was still quite eventful. This was, while not being as eventful, was still more likeable. And that's because:

1. The writing had improved a lot. That was my main issue with the first one. And the writing kept improving throughout the book. Not nearly as awkward.

2. This one was less predictable. While there was no read OMG moment, it did surprise me at times.

3. The lack of plausibility wasn't as transparent. Unlike the first book which was full of stuff that had no given explanation and was far-fetched, this one worked better. Though I still hope the author works on that.

4. It focused on the character. That worked in the book's favour because in the beginning of this book, I didn't like anyone other than Magnus. Now, I'm okay with Cleo and Jonas as well. I like Lysandra and I even have hope for Lucia.

Overall, I liked this book. I still think the series will get better and I have yet it give up hope for a team. If all goes well, I'll get my team of badasses.
