Reckless Refuge had all the wonderful fixings you can expect from a Catherine Cowles novel. Brody and Shay were honestly just the sweetest together. They both had intense and troubled pasts that they were escaping from, which made the suspense really gripping. I loved that their relationship built through the companionship they found in one another and evolved into them encouraging the other to move forward in life. One of the most refreshing things about this book was that they were great communicators in their relationship. There wasn’t much push and pull for them when it came to their feelings towards one another, there also wasn’t any miscommunication conflict between the two of them in the plot (which I don’t always see in romance) and it worked well for their characters and the story.

Cowles always does such a great job with world and character building and you can always trust she does diligence concerning the deeper parts (metal health, trauma survivors, struggles, disorders) of the characters she’s writing. Her characters all just seem so real life like and believable. Shay has such a unique past and Cowles did a great job executing the emotions and reality of what it would truly be like to be in Shays position. Shay’s storyline really pulled at my heartstrings.

I’m so happy to have FINALLY gotten this story and my head is already reeling with the possibilities for Hunter. I’ve had my eyes on him since the first book in this series and I’m so ready for more of him.

Loved this! I'm always here for a good heroine-in-hiding story and Shay and Brody didn't disappoint. This book was so easy to get lost into and I was really rooting for them from page 1. I loved seeing how they both were accepted into the found family of Anchor as well 🥹 and it took me way too long to make the connection (bc I can't remember names) but omg Everly!!

Reckless Refuge by Catherine Cowles 💕
Wrecked, Book 4
Interconnected Standalone

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Adult • Romance + suspense
Paperback Review
326 pages

🏡 romantic suspense
🎨 boss/employee
🏡 close proximity
🎨 age gap
🏡 heroine in hiding
🎨 famous artist
🏡 found family
🎨 who did this to you?

📍“Stay. Stay with me tonight.”

My dear baby llamas out there, the suspense in this one 😱 I’m shook. Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. Probably one of the most suspense heavy, what-is-happening, I’m-as-scared-as-she-is books by Catherine Cowles.

Which also means, lots of opportunities for the MMC to step in and tell her “I got you” 😏 while I’m melting on this side of the pages. But the cherry on top?! The fact that stuff was also happening to him so our beautiful, strong Shay had equal opportunities to hold him and tell Brody “I’m with you.”

📍“There’s something between us. It pulled at me from the second I got off that boat. A strand of something, weaving us together. And I’m not cutting that cord. And you could try, but I don’t think it would work.”

But let’s take a moment to appreciate this island. Nothing screams more close proximity than an island where only them two live 😏😏

What a ride. What a book. What a series.

And I’m soooo ready for Hunter 😎
