This was a sweet, often laugh-out-loud read. A lot of very dry humor!
Loved the narration by Kate Rudd.
Isn't the cover art fantastic!?!

An interesting story, but the only story I've ever read that felt like it dropped off at the end as abruptly as it did. Entirely frustrating at times; you'll want to shake some sense into the characters.

Ended up enjoying and being quite moved by this book, which had the initial appearance of being a will-they-won't-they romance and instead turned out to be a story about how Jane builds a life in a small town, both by building a chosen family and learning to accept the "extras". I really appreciate her journey with Jimmy, and how she grows to see him. More interesting than her love affairs, and each beat of the story felt honest and funny.

Read this book in a single day and loved it.
The plot moves slowly, and the story spans several years with each “chapter” being a few or many years from the previous “chapter”. I enjoyed that the titles of each sections were the year, it definitely emphasized that the book was more directed toward character development than a linear plot and helped emphasize the differences in Jane’s (mc) views her relationship to the town and it’s residents.
The characters have flaws, but are lovable in the sense that they are highly realistic. I think this is what made the book so entrapping was how vivid and realistic the characters’ strengths and faults truly were.
Would not classify this in the same category as other rom-com type novels, as Jane’s romance and views on her romantic relationship are more realistic, emotional, and reflective. Book deals with doubt, guilt, and uncertainty in relationships.

the plot doesn’t plot very hard but the novel makes up for it in wit and charm

Not a fan of the trope of an unlikeable man being “tamed” by a woman who spends decades wondering if he’s going to be unfaithful. Unlikeable characters all around.
