I kept waiting for the plot to start and before I knew it the book was done, I guess that was the point of it, the idea of if you are waiting for your life to start, you’ll keep waiting until you realize you are living it. I can understand the sweet simple life moments, but I couldn’t really connect with how things just seem to happen to Jane, she just seemed to be buoyed along. Overall it was a fine read that kept my focus and held my interest to keep going.

"She understood now that time was too valuable to deny yourself things that gave you pleasure."
This was a feel-good story with lovable characters. It's a quick and easy read, something you might enjoy at the beach. For me that means I don't have to pay too close attention, there aren't a lot of characters to keep track of, and the plot isn't stressful.

A sweet little story about how life doesn't turn out how you think it will - and that's okay. Happiness and contentment aren't always found in the life you wish for - it turns out it is right here in the mundane. Plus, the quirky characters make the story so much fun to read!

There were so many things I liked about this book, so many characters who made me laugh out loud (Gary, seriously - what a character!), and some moments that I felt were genuinely memorable. I was tired of Jane’s ho-hum life and the tolerance she had for some people who I felt were just SO frustrating, but her ability to see beyond these things and not be selfish or dramatic was also what I liked about her. The Duncan thing both bothered me and delighted me. I found the dual feelings while reading this book was part of its charm. This book resists the typical scandals and dramas of popular fiction, but held the charm and familiarity of small town stories, and it was a pleasing read.

This book was such a pleasant surprise! I did not anticipate how much I would enjoy the quirkiness of this novel, and how these characters would weasel their way into my heart (I'm looking at you, Gary). I already know that they will remain with me, even though done reading about them. Aren't those the best kind of reads?!
If I had to sum it up, this novel is about learning to make a family and growing to love them.
