I loved reading this book! The writing is terrific and the story is sweet and funny, I’m not sure how to rate it star wise but I did really like it so much.

This was a lovely read - so many wonderful turns-of-phrase and every character had their charm. My only gripe was that it was a little bit too quirky? Every character was just a bit too precious? Still, a fun and comfortable summer read. 4.5 stars.

I really liked this book- and flew through it- but it’s hard for me to accurately describe what it was about. I guess this is a book review, though, so I’ll try.

Mostly this is about Jane. A young second grade teacher living in a small Michigan town. Soon after moving to the town, she meets Duncan, and they start dating. The problem with Duncan is that he’s slept with or dating pretty much other woman in town. And he never wants to get married. Duncan also has a coworker named Jimmy- who is developmentally delayed and living with his mother. Jane and Duncan eventually break up, but they are brought back together a few years later when a terrible car crash happens & Jane becomes Jimmy’s full time caregiver.

The writing in this was beautiful, & the story was so ordinary in the best way. The small town brought a cast of colorful, quirky characters, and it captured the “everydayness” of life and love. I loved reading about Jane’s students, & then Jane and Duncan’s children. This book was kind of like a warm, cozy blanket. Definitely not action packed- but very driven by fun, relatable characters.

So much lazy writing! Character development is minimal at best. There are so many “yikes” moments in just the first 41 pages alone. From bashing having sex with a migrant worker to making fun of a mentally disabled man, I couldn’t stomach anymore. Oh, and the casual acceptance that the main character’s partner openly talked about having sex with every woman in their small town (single and married alike)… I love scandal in books, but pairing it with terrible writing and pacing is something I can’t excuse.

Such a fun book. This one is set in Boyne City, MI and has the small town feel of the Gilmore Girls.

I think Patrice was my favorite character, but Jane was a close second.

This story is honestly just as cozy as the pretty bed depicted on this book's gorgeous and colorful cover. Like, just settle in and relax.

This book gave me straight up Gilmore Girls vibes and that's really all you need to know. It follows a unique cast of loveable and sometimes annoying characters in a tight-knit small town over the course of several years. What more do you want in a novel?

I didn't really read the synopsis before I read it and I'm glad I approached it that way, so I'm not going to include it in my review either.

Firstly let me just say I agree with Jane on the garlic bread!

This books was sad, happy, funny and real. I really enjoyed reading it, I felt like I was looking into someone's real life. I really connected to the characters, who were written so well, and I felt as if they were real people not fictional.

The ending maybe was a little disappointing but that's me just asking for more because I didn't want to leave these characters.

I would recommend!

Oh, I loved this book. First of all, it was funny! I chuckled out loud frequently; Heiny has a way with the dialog and MC’s internal narration that easily drew out my laughter.

The story is sweet and uplifting and I enjoyed traveling along with the Jane’s journey of learning to live and be with people through life. There is a certain absurdity to the premise but I thought it was perfect and necessary for the story.

Spent most of my time reading this book waiting for something to happen. When it didn’t… I realized I just cared about the characters.
