This book made a different perspective come alive for me. Honest, and fascinating

Hamid’s essays could serve as a moral compass for anyone trying to figure out what could be done, how we could proceed, what the answers might be to ending, preventing the too-much-violence in the world from Afghanistan to Pakistan to India. I learned so much about Pakistan and will follow up on some of the books he recommends. Dispatches is the first Book of Hamid’s that I have read and am excited to read more from this moral, lyrical, realistic optimist. I am excited by the fiction ahead of me but will also be on the lookout for Hamid’s essays/non-fiction.

This was a pleasant and thoughtful little essay collection to breeze through. I think I took it all in over the course of just four sittings. It's interesting to get some insights into his creative process and I liked his geo-political and social essays, even if they did tend to be somewhat repetitive.

Give it a read to learn about the complex relationship between Pakistan the US and others through the eyes of a Pakistani man.

Okay, so I decided to give it a reread thinking I might finish it this time, and I did. However, I was bored out of my wits towards the end. The last few essays, despite being truth bombs in many senses, were quite dry and lengthy.

Apart from that, these essays are a great insight into the events that unfolded between 2000 and 2014. They also provide a personal insight about how an individual along with the people around him and nations as a whole are affected from politics, the public policies of powerful countries and their alliances with the developing countries.

The detailed account of war or terror and its devastating consequences on Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, and other countries in the region is eye-opening, to say that least. Especially if you keep in mind that we as Pakistanis have suffered the consequences first-hand. The emphasis on internal conflicts, battling extremist elements, the hatred among sects, ethnicities, races, and provinces was dealt with the sensitivity it deserves.

Mohsin Hamid's personal experiences because of having lived in New York, London and Lahore, the impact of these global shifts on his writings and observations adds to the reading experience. All these incidents hit all the right nerves.

Thought-provoking and a valuable opportunity to think about other POVs outside of the standard American. Hamid is great.

I haven’t yet read a novel of Hamid’s, but now I’m looking forward to it even more. I appreciate the way he shares his thoughts and experiences from youth through current adulthood, incorporating current events, history, and perspective.

The book that brought me out of my reading slump. The book is a compilation of Hamid's pieces of writing published over the years. the book comprises three sections: life, art, and politics. The first section provides a narrative of the life of Hamid and enables you to get familiar with him. The second section deals with his writing process and what inspires him to write. The last section of the book explores the essays on the world that we share.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, yet the last section is my favorite.

extremely enjoyable. it maybe lacked some depth for me, though.
