Good story, though I had trouble getting into it due to the setting.

This was a good book.  It technically had all the pieces I was looking for, but it felt like it didn't quite have the emotional depth I was looking for.  Especially when it came to the ending.
The ending felt rushed and like it was focusing on the wrong person.   Arent was the one who was betrayed and yet we were focusing on Sara's perspective.  It just felt a bit shallow emotionally.

This book was WILD. Really confusing, but quite witty and however you think it will go is probably not how it will go. Violent, tense, scary, but very complex.

This was so much better than I was expecting! I wouldn’t have picked this up if I hadn’t got a copy for free but I might read Turton’s other book now. I’d recommend reading this when you have a bit of time on your hands because of the slow pacing: I took it on holiday and it was great for that!

This book slowly got less interesting over time - possibly because it's so long, but possibly because I took a very long time to read it. Maybe I'm just a little dumb, but I felt like the ending came out of nowhere and was very abrupt. I was really invested in Arent and Sammy's dynamic from the very first page - which kept me invested throughout most of the book, hoping to see more of them interacting together.

Stuart Turton is an auto-buy author for me now.  I loved this almost as much as I loved Evelyn Hardcastle.  Arent and Sara were both very interesting main characters and I loved following them while they investigated the whole thing.  By the end of the story I still had absolutely no idea if the devil was real and who was pulling it off.
