I genuinely liked this, it starts out spooky and creepy and strange and then leans into its premise all the way and wrings an exciting and suspenseful fantasy/horror adventure out of a bunk bed, a carpet and a door

This was cringe-y torture to read that sent me into a reading slump spiral. If I were rating it purely on my personal reading experience it's like a one star. I felt like the author was pretty well read on Harry Potter lore/technicalities without really ever having read any of the books....or maybe the writer doesn't get children, but there's something that really doesn't work in this short.

I rounded up to two stars because the Kindle formatting is good and the general quality of writing is a lot higher than so many books I've read through Kindle Unlimited. Overall it's a far worse experience than books with grammar, misspelling, and format issues but have bomb premise/character...but I just feel weird one starring a book that has good writing.

Cute. A very imaginative story about a bunch of kids playing a rousing game of a variation of "the floor is lava" at a sleepover party. Is it really happening? Who knows! Many references to the world of Harry Potter.

A story where children's imaginations run wild. Honestly just boring, as it was hard to really care about this very clearly made up danger. And despite being a Harry Potter fan, the references were just too much and out of place.

I am thinking mayhaps this is not the genre for me, also a lot of uneccessary mentions of that transphobic author's series
