Okay so admittedly I was NOT into this when I first started. I should mention that its been a long time since I'd read the first one so I was just annoyed by the characters and what was going on, and just wasn't interested the way I wanted to be. Fortunately I pushed through and got invested. I liked the conversations that the book had and where things went in the end.

The biggest issues that I had with it was around common YA tropes, and since I'm technically not the target audience I'm rating it a star higher here than I would for myself. I did really like the second half of the book, the conversations, and how some things were handled so I think its a good book in general.

I read the first book and I was not expecting a sequel. But since one did come out I decided to read it. I liked reading it but at the same time I felt like it was somewhat unneeded.

After loving the first Loveboat, Taipei, this sequel is messy. Some parts drag along and are predictable while others seem rushed. Xavier’s family video was the most beautiful part and redeeming moment of the whole entire novel. While I’m sure the opulence mentioned exists and this is a fiction story, so much of the story seemed to careen awkwardly.
