YES YES YES: magical realism, ghosts, 40s Chicago...another great story from Laura Ruby.

I had heard amazing things about this book and was not disappointed. Laura Ruby is a master of intricate narratives that all come together in the end, leaving you hanging for every word and through every page. This young adult book is one I’m going to remember for a long time, much like bone gap did for me when I read that. Highly recommend this incredible novel #pernillerecommends

I found this book rather boring and I wasn't super interested in it. I'm not sure what the point of following two main characters was, one dead one alive, but I would have preferred it to stick with one or the other. I was more interested in Frankie's story of family and the orphanage, but I'm not sure what the ghost perspective added. In all, I'm not really sure what this book was trying to do. It wasn't bad but I can't say I enjoyed it.

However, 5/5 for the title- I love it so much!

In stories, girls are always opening doors, always the wrong ones. Always crossing thresholds thinking they're getting away free. Nothing is free. ...It doesn't matter which door you open, she said. Three or ten or thirteen doorways, there are wolves behind them all.

I loved it, nothing else to say.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5. There is nothing like a supernatural story when the weather turns chilly, and this one...wow. In World War II era Chicago, Frankie and her siblings are left at an orphanage by her father. She thinks it is temporary, but as the months stretch into years she must find a way to come to terms with a shattered America and her fractured life. Watching the entire time, a ghost with a past she cannot face is rooting for Frankie, while begging her to not make the same choices she made. Haunting and memorable. Recommended for grades 9+.

This was a book that still sticks with me years later. It was also a read that made me immediately sit to writing thereafter. Vividly creative and historically infused. Thirteen Doorways, Wolves Behind Them All set me and my beloved book club pals on an obsession with good “doors” books.

written well and was very captivating, unpredictable and exciting but ending was underwhelming
