A really strange and disturbing debut about a violent rape and its aftermath. The novel's characters are actually peach-like, tree-like, the baby is made of sugar and the rapist is an absolutely revolting greasy sausage. The ending packs a real punch and the broken, visceral prose makes a detached reading impossible.
It was probably the most nauseating book I've ever read, I genuinely feel slightly sick now.

This book is such a visceral experience that I need time and distance before being able to rate it or even figure how I feel about it.

Peach is a gruesome novella that follows the narrator, Peach, through the day after a brutal sexual assault. It is written in a choppy, string of consciousness style.  The descriptions of characters and their actions throughout this story are disgusting and frequently food based; the teacher is human custard, the assailant and oily sausage.  At the beginning, I felt as though the shocking, visceral descriptions were indicative of Peach’s mental state after the assault, however, as the story progressed, it began to feel a bit gratuitous.  This was a 2.5 for me, because while I feel it is important to tell the stories of sexual assault victims, the ending left me disappointed and saddened. I don’t think we necessarily need more stories about a victim being entirely consumed by their trauma, no matter how metaphorical they may or may not be.
